Scottish University joining £2.2m project to research carbon-capture potential of coal tar by-products

Scientists from Heriot-Watt University are taking part in a £2.2 million Europe-wide project to find new applications for low value liquids produced during coal tar distillation.

The aim of the project to find a purpose for the large volumes of liquids generated through the processing of coal into coke for use in steel and iron manufacturing.
